Glassy High-Shine Lips: How To Wear the Trend

Love it or not, ‘90s beauty trends are staging a comeback. One we’re actually excited about? High-shine lips. Nothing makes a statement quite like an eye-catching pout, but we know just as well as anyone that artfully swiping on layers of gloss can be a tricky task. Never fear—we’re here to help make your lips shinier than your favorite highlighter.

Follow these four easy tips and you’ll have a majorly reflective and ultra-glossy look—that has definite staying power—in no time.

1. Prep your lips
Before you start, make sure your pucker is in tip-top shape. Exfoliated and hydrated lips will keep product from collecting in the corners and along the rim of your mouth. Use our moisture rich Lip Primer to create a base that will smooth, define, and prime your pout for long-lasting color that won’t crack or fade.

2. Line your lips
Define your lips by using our Lip Pencil or Classic Lip Liner in a rich hue that most closely matches your top color. (Bonus points for choosing a bold shade!) Start at the center and then trace outwards. In this case, more is better.

3. Fill in your lips
Either fill in the rest of your lips with lipliner and then apply a layer of lipstick on top of that, or skip directly to your Lipstick of choice. We’re currently loving Chocolate Cherry, Tutu, Currant, Taupe, Siesta, Viva Magenta, Nude, Poppy, Beso Beso, and Temptress.

4. Gloss your lips
Once your lipstick has set, add a few layers of our sheer Sheer Gloss in Crystal (you can also reach for Divinity or Liquid Bliss for added iridescence or shimmer)—make sure to extend the gloss slightly outside the line where your lip color ends for added dimension.
