How To Create A Bold Lip With Major Staying Power

Now is the time to up your bold lipstick game! We love the idea of swiping on a deep, super vibrant, or unexpected shade, but we also know that applying a bright pop of color on your pout can be somewhat intimidating. But never fear—adding some edge to your tried-and-true beauty look is easier than you think, and we’re here to help. 

Follow these four easy steps and you’ll have a fabulously intense look—with major staying power—in no time.

Prep your lips. Before you start, make sure your pout is in tip-top shape. Hydrated lips will keep the color from cracking and hold it in place. Softly rub our Gentle Exfoliator in small circles on your lips and wipe it off with warm water and a towel and then apply coconut oil, chapstick, or even our Renewing Eye Cream to moisturize your skin. Then use our hydrating Lip Primer to create a base that will smooth, define, and prime your pout for long-lasting color that won’t fade or feather.

Line your lips. Define your lips by using our moisture rich Lip Liner in a hue that most closely matches your chosen color of lipstick. Start at the center of your cupid’s bow and then trace outwards to the corners—feel free to slightly overline your lips if you prefer a plumper-looking pout. In this case, more lip liner is better.

Fill in your lips. Either fill in the rest of your lips with your lip liner and then apply a layer of lipstick on top of that, or skip directly to your Lipstick shade of choice. We’d recommend one of our deeper colors, like Meritage, Pomegranate, Starlet, Currant or Chocolate Cherry. To get a more pigmented result, apply lipstick directly from the tube. Perfect your lips. Set your look by blotting with a tissue, and then add one final layer of lipstick. Fix any mistakes by putting a small amount of foundation or concealer on a Lip Brush or q-tip and delicately apply it on the spots that need to be cleaned up.
