How To Apply Makeup To Dry Skin
Posted on February 15 2023
Do you have dry or dehydrated skin? Whether it’s year-round or on a seasonal basis, you can still experience that dewy glow. All you have to do is pick hydrating, thoughtfully formulated products that will nourish your skin and help it retain moisture while you wear them.
Start With Good Skin Care
It’s key to prep your skin with the right products when dealing with dry skin, and that starts before you apply a drop of makeup. To remove dead skin cells and start smooth, wash your face with warm water and a gently exfoliating cream cleanser—our Balancing Cleanser, which is formulated with kelp, vitamin E, and rosemary, strikes the perfect balance. Follow by adding moisture all over your face and neck with a high-performance moisturizer (like our Hydrating Cream), allowing the product to absorb into your skin for a few minutes before moving on to makeup.
Choose a Hydrating Foundation + Concealer
When it comes to your foundation and concealer, reach for formulas that add moisture rather than take it away. Our Moisturizing Liquid Foundation is infused with vitamins A and E along with a unique plant based hydration system that keeps your skin supple and resilient, but never oily—pair it with our Cream Concealer.
Reach for Cream Formulas
When it comes to blush, highlighter, and bronzer, stick to cream formulas—they glide easily onto your skin and stay put without accentuating dry patches and settling into fine lines the way that powders sometimes do. Our 3-in-1 Multi Pots are blendable and buildable, and are packed with nourishing ingredients like jojoba seed oil and shea butter. We love to use the shade Magnolia for bronzer paired with our Cream Highlighter for a natural glow.
Focus On Your Eyes
Because dry skin tends to be less intense on your eyelids, your best bet is to really play up your eyes. Apply your favorite eyeshadow, eyeliner (we suggest our Precision Liquid Liner that’s available in tons of vibrant colors), and mascara per usual—if dryness does become an issue, use one of our cream-based Multi Pots on your eyes instead.
Finish With Setting Spray
Instead of finishing your look with a setting powder, reach for our Sea Mineral Hydra Mist to add a final layer of moisture. Made up of a super hydrating blend of ingredients—like sea fennel, rosemary, aloe vera, chamomile, spirulina, and green tea—this spray can be lightly spritzed on your face after applying all of your makeup to lock your look in place. You can also reapply it throughout the day whenever you need an extra boost of moisture.
