The Correct Order To Apply Skincare Products
Posted on February 11 2019
Skincare can be downright confusing, but it doesn’t have to be! With the multitude of different products out there, discerning which ones to use and when to use them is a task in itself. But never fear—we’re breaking down the exact order in which you should apply your skincare to help take out some of the guesswork and get you glowing. The general rule of thumb? Apply the lightest products first and end with the heaviest.
Check out our step-by-step application guide—along with some of our favorite skincare products—below.
Step 1: Cleanser & Exfoliator
Remove your makeup and wash your face before slathering on the rest of your products. Choose a cleanser based on your skin type, and use our Gentle Exfoliator a few times a week to smooth and refine your skin’s texture.
Step 2: Tonic or Toner
Use a gentle tonic or toner to further cleanse, prime, and purify skin. We have three different tonics suited for each skin type—dry/dehydrated, normal to combination, and oily/overactive.
Step 3: Serums
Amp up your skin health by applying a serum to nourish, rejuvenate, and protect against environmental damage. Our Advanced Polypeptides Searum has a 24-hour time-release moisture delivery system that helps to balance and maintain skin’s moisture level all day.
Step 4: Eye Cream
Eye creams tend to be lighter and thinner than face moisturizers, so make sure to apply them before your creams and oils. Try our Renewing Eye Cream, a very light and soothing treatment that supplies continuous moisture while providing anti-wrinkle and firming benefits.
Step 5: Spot Treatments
Make sure to tap on your spot treatments—whether they’re for zits, dark spots, or scars—before your moisturizer, so they can really penetrate your skin and work their magic.
Step 6: Moisturizer, Facial Oil, & SPF
Moisturizers and facial oils infuse your skin with hydration and help trap in and seal all of the products underneath, making the ingredients even more effective—ours are categorized by skin type. Reach for SPF 30 (or higher) to protect your face as the final step in your routine.
